How Does the Expedition Start?

We’ll pick you up at your accommodation in downtown La Paz between 9:00 and 10:00 AM.
If you prefer to arrive on your own, we’ll meet you at 9:45 AM at the Muelle Fiscal.

There, your captain and guide will welcome you and go over the activity guidelines.

What Is the Navigation to the Whale Shark Area Like?

After boarding and before entering the whale shark sanctuary, we’ll complete a brief visual check with the local authorities.

We’ll then navigate through the bay in search of whale sharks migrating to these waters each season.
During the navigation, your guide will explain the behavior of these ocean giants and the rules for responsible interaction.

How Is the Encounter Carried Out?

Once a whale shark is located, we’ll begin snorkeling in small, controlled groups of no more than 5 swimmers in the water at a time.

The encounter is 100% natural, respectful, and safe for both the animal and participants.

What Else Is Explored During the Journey?

During navigation, you’ll enjoy the open views of La Paz Bay and, with some luck, spot other marine species that inhabit this protected area.

What Is Included During the Expedition?

Onboard refreshments (water, fresh fruit, cookies) and all necessary equipment (snorkel gear, permits, insurance).

What Time Do We Return to La Paz?

The total duration is approximately 2 to 3 hours from departure.
After the activity, we’ll return to the Muelle Fiscal. If you requested transport, we’ll take you back to your accommodation. Since this is a completely natural event, some schedule flexibility is required.

Enviaron una camioneta por nosotros al hotel, nos llevaron al puerto y nos explicaron todo a detalle en todo momento. Viajamos con 2 niños y todo estuvo perfecto para ellos (tienen aletas, chalecos, goggles y snorkels). The tour was set up in a very straightforward way so it was very easy to find the meeting point and we were directed appropriately. Overall, it was so incredible to see several different areas of protected land and wildlife. Our guide, Edgar, was fantastic - incredibly knowledgeable about the area and had such a fun energy that made the whole trip enjoyable. He even switched seats with us so we could be more comfortable when he saw that we were getting a bit chilled from the slight ocean spray! Our captain was also amazing! Being brought to essentially a private beach and having lunch (including a vegan ceviche option!) was just an unforgettable experience. I didn’t join the snorkeling session with the sea lions, but I don’t feel like my experience was diminished at all because it was mind-blowing to get to see dolphins, whales, sea lions, and an essentially untouched beach. This was such a relaxing experience, beautiful scenery and the tour guides made sure that we got to experience as much as possible. We saw whales, rays, sea lions and a school of dolphins. Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is seeing the whale shark guaranteed? What happens if it doesn’t appear?

Usually, we are able to swim with these giants every day. However, as this is a completely natural encounter, sightings cannot be guaranteed. The activity is non-refundable.

2. Can I do the tour if I am pregnant?

No. By official government regulation, this tour is not suitable for pregnant women or people with heart conditions. Please consult your doctor for more information.

3. What level of experience or physical condition is required?

You need prior snorkeling and swimming experience to respectfully keep pace with the whale shark. Otherwise, we invite you to enjoy respectful observation from the boat. Our team will assist you at all times. If you are prone to seasickness, we recommend taking the usual precautions before boarding.

4. What type of vessel is used?

Equipped vessels in excellent condition, with everything needed for a safe and comfortable experience, including onboard bathroom and full shade.

5. Can I use sunscreen?

Yes, but it must be strictly biodegradable for the wellbeing of marine life.

6. Where does the expedition depart from?

We depart from downtown La Paz. Once your reservation is confirmed, you’ll receive the exact meeting point along with recommendations.

7. Can I bring my pet?

No. Conservation regulations prohibit pets in the whale shark refuge area.

8. What happens if the weather prevents departure?

In case of cancellation due to weather conditions or authority decisions, the tour will be rescheduled or fully refunded.

9. What should I bring?

Biodegradable sunscreen, towel, swimsuit, light clothing, and any personal snacks you’d like. Snorkeling gear and refreshments are included.

10. Is there parking at the boarding dock?

Yes. The area is very safe and you may use any available public space. There is also private parking, usually at a cost of $60 MXN per day.

11. Cancellation Policies

If the tour is canceled due to weather, by authorities, or by the company, it will be fully refunded or rescheduled.
Cancellations by the customer or no-shows are non-refundable.
